Police nab 21 suspected armed robbers, cultists in Ekiti

The Police Command in Ekiti State has apprehended 21 individuals linked to killings and other crimes in the area.

Recently, gunmen killed four people, including a commercial motorcycle ticket agent, at various locations in the Ado-Ekiti metropolis.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Sunday Abutu, revealed that the arrests followed a thorough investigation by the police.

According to Mr. Abutu, the suspects were detained on charges of armed robbery and cultism. He explained that these individuals were members of different cult groups and were involved in retaliatory killings within their confraternities.

The police investigation also identified one of the suspects as a member of the ‘Eiye Confraternity.’

Mr Abutu said that further investigation also led to the arrest of several other suspects, including members of a notorious cult gang who allegedly came from Plateau State to take part in the act.

He said that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Mr Abutu urged residents to be vigilant and continue to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies towards nipping crimes in the bud.
