Police Launch Manhunt for Killers of Catholic Priest in Anambra

Authorities in Anambra State have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators responsible for the murder of Catholic priest Tobias Okonkwo, who was shot dead in Ihiala Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued on Friday.

According to church officials, Father Okonkwo, who was also a practicing pharmacist, was attacked and fatally shot by unknown assailants along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Superintendent Ikenga stated that Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono, has committed to fully pursuing the investigation and ensuring the apprehension of those responsible.

Commissioner Obono expressed his condolences to the priest’s family and the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, calling the incident a significant loss.

He urged residents to cooperate with authorities by providing any relevant information that could aid the investigation, assuring the public that all tips would remain confidential.
