The Nigeria Police Force has ramped up security measures across all 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sylvester Alabi and the Force’s Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi have reassured citizens of their readiness to ensure a peaceful and secure election process.
In a press statement on Thursday, Adejobi announced that the police had deployed officers to 203 wards and 3,933 polling units statewide. “At least four police officers, in collaboration with other security personnel, will be stationed at each polling unit to guarantee smooth conduct,” he confirmed.
Speaking at the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters in Akure, DIG Alabi underscored the importance of intelligence gathering and decisive action to counter security threats.
“Our proactive deployment covers all local government areas to deter interference and ensure safety,” he said, urging security agencies and the public to collaborate in upholding law and order.
Alabi further assured citizens that contingency plans are in place to address potential disruptions. “We are committed to responding appropriately to any issue that arises before, during, or after the polls,” he noted.
The DIG also called on voters to adhere strictly to the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and other legal frameworks. “Any electoral offender or troublemaker will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.
With this robust security arrangement, the Police aim to inspire confidence in the electoral process and ensure a seamless democratic exercise across the state.
