Police in Benue State have confirmed the rescue of 13 victims who were kidnapped from an 18-seater Benue Links bus ambushed on Thursday evening in the Ikobi community, Otukpo Local Government Area.
The bus was traveling from Makurdi to Otukpo when armed assailants intercepted it and abducted the passengers.
According to a statement from the state’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, a gunfight ensued between the police and the kidnappers, leading to the rescue of the 13 victims.
The statement revealed that at approximately 8:30 pm on April 3, 2025, a Toyota Hiace bus from the Benue Links transport company was ambushed near the Otukpo Burnt Bricks area.
The kidnappers opened fire, injuring the driver and a front-seat passenger, forcing the driver to halt.
Responding promptly, the police, in partnership with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, reached the scene.
They found the driver and one injured passenger while the kidnappers fled with the remaining victims.
