Police Confirm Shooting, Abduction in Katsina Hospital Assault

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Kankara General Hospital, which left a doctor and another healthcare worker injured, while three people were abducted.

According to Politics Nigeria, In a statement, Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar condemned the incident, describing it as senseless and unacceptable.

He stressed that healthcare workers, who play vital roles in society, should not be targeted in such violent acts.

Police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, explained that on Tuesday, January 14, armed assailants with AK-47 rifles stormed the hospital and fired shots in the air to instill fear. During the attack, Dr. Murtala Saleh was injured in the thigh, and Kamala Suleiman was shot in the knee. Both victims are stable and receiving medical care.

The gunmen also abducted three individuals during the attack. Despite a shootout between the bandits and security personnel, the perpetrators managed to escape with the captives.

The police assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the criminals involved. The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily routines, assuring them of the police’s dedication to ensuring safety and security in the state.
