Police Commission Sacks 18 Officers, Demoted 19 Others

By Our Correspondent

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has sanctioned 37 senior officers for various offenses following its recent plenary meeting in Abuja.

This includes the dismissal of 18 officers, comprising ten Assistant Superintendents, four Deputy Superintendents, two Chief Superintendents, and one Superintendent.

Another 19 officers faced demotion, with ranks reduced across several levels, including one Assistant Commissioner and multiple Superintendents.

The PSC reviewed 110 pending disciplinary cases and addressed 23 appeals, petitions, and legal matters, some of which required further action or compliance with court judgments.

Officers involved in serious offenses also face potential prosecution by the Nigeria Police Force’s Legal Unit.

Beyond dismissals and demotions, other penalties issued ranged from severe reprimands to formal warnings.

In addition, promotions previously approved by the Commission were forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for execution.

The plenary, chaired by retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, stressed that officers must focus on criminal investigations and security threats, avoiding involvement in civil disputes such as land and marital issues.

Moving forward, the Commission intends to handle disciplinary matters promptly, ensuring efficient career progression for those cleared of wrongdoing.
