Police arrest vigilante for killing suspected carjacker

 

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a vigilante member accused of fatally injuring a suspect who had been entrusted to him by a community member.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, affirmed the arrest on Monday. Hundeyin disclosed that the Itire Police Division received an early morning distress call around 5:00 a.m. from a concerned resident.

He said that the resident, who claimed to live at Shonde Street, Itire, reported that some thieves vandalised his car and after raising the alarm, a suspect was arrested.

The police spokesperson said that the suspect was handed over to a vigilante in charge of the street (name withheld).

“The complainant further stated that to his surprise, the thief he handed over to the vigilante alive was set ablaze instead of taking him to the police station for proper investigation. The vigilante has been arrested and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
