Police arrest Septugenarian for defiling teenage daughter

The Lagos State Police Command is investigating Bashiru Abiodun, a 70-year-old farmer, over allegations of sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter.

Abiodun, who lives at No. 26, Papa-Ado Street in Agbowa, was arrested by the Agbowa-Ejirin division on August 29, 2024.

The arrest follows accusations from his daughter and subsequent reports by his wife.

The victim’s mother stated that her daughter had informed her of the abuse before witnessing the act firsthand.

The confrontation over these allegations reportedly led to a confrontation and strained relations between her and Abiodun.

“In order to suppress the issue and render me and the victim more vulnerable, he put his only house for sale and collected part payment from the buyer. He then relocated and went to live in Itu Kosomi community.

“My husband believes selling the house will serve as punishment for us to leave him alone and not to accuse him of his crime. At the police station, a member of our community alleged that my husband also defiled his first daughter from his first wife who is now married.”

The victim (name withheld) stated, “My father occasionally had carnal knowledge of me.”
