The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 30-year-old Daniel Onyejekwe, who allegedly fatally stabbed his neighbor, identified as Christian, during an argument over rice.
According to PUNCH, the tragic incident occurred on New Year’s Day in the Ogwanja area of Sapele, Delta State, after a disagreement between the two men escalated into violence.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating, “The suspect is in custody, and the incident has been confirmed. The two were involved in a heated fight, resulting in severe injuries, and unfortunately, one of them, Christian, died.”
Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation began when rice was being distributed along Boyo Road. Onyejekwe and Christian got into an argument, which quickly turned physical.
An anonymous eyewitness described the scene, saying, “Christian and Daniel were fighting over the rice when Daniel grabbed a bottle and stabbed Christian multiple times. The vigilante group rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
The body of the deceased has been taken to a mortuary, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. SP Edafe assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution once the investigation is concluded
