The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has disclosed that operatives from the Utako Divisional Headquarters have arrested five suspects in connection with an alleged kidnapping in Abuja.
This information was made known in a statement on Thursday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
Adeh stated that the arrests were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal activities in the nation’s capital. The suspects were tracked and apprehended in the Gwagwa and Dei-Dei areas of Abuja between June 30 and July 3, following a two-day operation based on credible intelligence.
According to Adeh, the arrests are linked to a kidnapping incident in Gwagwa on June 12, where a victim was kidnapped, and a ransom of N12 million was paid. Despite the ransom payment, two victims were killed.
The FCT Police spokesperson added that the suspects were involved in multiple kidnappings and other serious crimes within the territory. During the operation, police recovered four AK-47 rifles, a dane gun, two magazines, and eight unexpended live ammunition from the suspects.
The suspects have confessed to the crimes, according to Adeh. She also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Benneth Igweh, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of residents.
