The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended eight secondary school students suspected of engaging in cult-related activities at Ifo High School.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday in Ota.
According to her, on March 21, 2025, at around 12:05 p.m., the school’s Vice Principal, Alako Oluwole, and a teacher, Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported that a group of students had been causing disturbances, extorting valuables from their peers, and engaging in cult-related activities.
Following the report, the Ifo Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with the school management, moved swiftly to arrest the eight suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the students belonged to the “Future Guys” cult group and were allegedly recruited by two senior students.
While the names of the suspects were withheld, CSP Odutola stated that the students would undergo thorough screening as part of the investigation. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after the preliminary inquiry.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered that the students be brought before him for further questioning. He also assured that they would be referred for counseling and mentorship to prevent future involvement in cult activities.
Mr. Ogunlowo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order while urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together in eradicating cultism in schools.
