Planned Protest: We Will Defend Southwest Against External Threats – Youths

The Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) has pledged to protect the Southwest region and its heritage from external forces that threaten peace, unity, and development.

In response to a planned protest against national hardship scheduled for August, YYSA leaders National President Olalekan Hammed and National Secretary Olawale Ajao revealed on Friday in Ibadan that they have uncovered plans by malicious elements to exploit the protest for destructive purposes.

The youths alleged that there are plans to set major economic facilities in the Southwest ablaze.

“We have discovered that these unscrupulous elements aim to use the nationwide protest against hardship to perpetrate evils by setting ablaze our major economic development facilities in the Southwest.

They also plan to menace palaces and burn them to ashes,” the statement read.

Additionally, they mentioned that local government secretariats are among the targeted properties.

YYSA declared, “It is our prerogative to defend the Southwest region and its heritage against all external forces threatening peace, unity, and development.

Therefore, we unequivocally declare that the scheduled mass protest has been put on hold to protect Yoruba land from enemies of progress disguised as students and activists.”

The group also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for upholding justice and ensuring the proper functioning of all government tiers as outlined in the Nigerian constitution.

They emphasized the importance of the local government level in grassroots development and security, noting that genuine development begins in local areas where primary activities such as farming, fishing, craft, hunting, and petty trading take place.

YYSA stressed that agricultural products and food items are transported to cities from rural areas managed by local administrations and that security issues can best be addressed at the local level, where suspicious individuals can be easily identified.

I really appreciate your group for coming out openly and promised to defend the south west against unscrupulous elements that would want to destroy some identified important places. Majority of these destroyers may come from the north so i imploy your group to make sure that you stick to your words.
