Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ondo State Chapter, have stormed the road leading to the Governor’s office in Akure, the state capital, to express their displeasure over the prevailing hardship in the country.
The hordes of protesters wielded placards with inscriptions such as: “Fix Local Refineries” “End Subsidy” “Stop hunger and lower food prices”.
This comes as Nigerians are being troubled with the spiraling rise of food items.
Speaking with Starnews Ng on Tuesday, a trader, Jimmy Bukola, bemoaned the adverse effects of the bad economy on her business, noting that the pang of pains caused by the incessant increase in food items have forced many people to eat imbalanced diet.
Jimmy, who sells food stuff at the market said, “As a store owner, I was surprised by the high prices of food items when I bought them. Some prices even increased by 50%.
“When I tried to sell the items in my store, my customers were unhappy and didn’t want to buy from me. My sales have gone down, and some people think it’s because the government removed the fuel subsidy.
“We ask the government to please understand our situation. We are struggling to make ends meet because of high prices and low sales.
“We hope the government will take action to help us, as we are facing hardship due to rising prices and reduced sales.
“We urge the government to act quickly to prevent further suffering, as we are almost starving because of these challenges.
