The Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has said Peter Obi is still a member of the Labour Party, responding to claims that he may be switching to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tanko shared this on Monday, April 7, during a live appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
He reacted to comments made by SDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, who recently said that talks were ongoing with top politicians, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), about joining SDP before the next election cycle.
Tanko dismissed the idea that Obi is planning to leave Labour Party at this time.
He maintained that the former Anambra State governor is still with LP and that any change in that position would be made known if it ever happens.
He also mentioned that the party’s leadership will soon meet to clear up any confusion among supporters and the public, especially after the recent Supreme Court judgment that removed Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman.
He said the upcoming meeting will help set the record straight and provide direction moving forward.
