Peter Obi Denies Arrest Rumor, Confirms He’s in Onitsha

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has refuted claims of his arrest, confirming that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to Vanguard, the denial follows rumors tied to an ongoing exchange of allegations between Obi and Felix Morka, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), over alleged death threats.

In a statement shared on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi dismissed the arrest claims as false and urged his supporters to ignore the misinformation.

“The recurring fake news about me. I have been made aware of a circulating false claim regarding my alleged arrest. Let me categorically state that these claims are entirely untrue. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Such fake news has unfortunately become a pastime for some individuals,” Obi wrote.

He also recalled a similar incident in September 2024 when false reports alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) had raided his residence, even though he was in Rwanda at the time.

“Last year, while I was in Rwanda, rumors surfaced that DSS invaded my house. Now, as I sit at home in Onitsha, they claim I was arrested in Abuja. The motives behind these falsehoods are far from positive, but we must not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the pressing challenges facing our nation,” he stated.

In a related development, Felix Morka addressed his controversial remarks about Obi during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show. He clarified that his comments were in direct response to a question regarding allegations that Obi is a “voodoo economist” and “prophet of doom.”

Morka also called on Obi to provide evidence supporting claims of death threats against him and his family, emphasizing the need for substantiation in such serious matters.
