The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended New Year greetings to Nigerians while urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action in addressing the country’s most pressing issues as the nation prepares for 2025.
According to Politics Nigeria, in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP called on President Tinubu to use his New Year address as an opportunity to offer concrete solutions to critical problems such as insecurity, fuel scarcity, and the food crisis.
The PDP expressed disappointment in the President’s previous addresses, criticizing them for lacking substance and failing to provide real solutions to the challenges facing the country. The party emphasized that it is not enough for the President to deliver speeches; tangible actions are required to address the nation’s woes.
The PDP also warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against continuing with what they described as “anti-people” policies into 2025, stressing that such actions would only further frustrate Nigerians.
The statement further encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, law-abiding, and determined to safeguard the country’s democracy, while demanding transparency and accountability from the government in the new year.
The statement reads:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extends its congratulations to Nigerians on the arrival of 2025 and urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that his New Year address presents actionable steps to reduce fuel prices, address hunger, and provide clear plans to ensure the security of lives and property across the nation.
The PDP’s stance comes after over 18 months of what they consider President Tinubu’s failure to provide meaningful solutions in his speeches, which have been filled with empty promises, fabricated statistics, and unsubstantiated claims of progress, with no concrete plans to address insecurity, revitalize the economy, create jobs, or improve the livelihoods of Nigerians.
The PDP stressed that the President must take accountability for ongoing corruption, wasteful spending, and the mismanagement of public funds, particularly highlighting the billions generated from the removal of fuel subsidies.
The party also called for transparency in investigating and recovering the over N25 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders and government officials.
Further, the PDP voiced concern about the lack of action on the alleged state-backed killings, especially the 2020 EndSARS massacre, urging the government to address these unresolved issues.
The PDP concluded by warning the APC against carrying forward its controversial policies into 2025, cautioning that such actions would further alienate Nigerians. However, the party encouraged the citizens to remain hopeful, reaffirming the importance of defending the country’s constitutional democracy and calling for accountability from the government.
Finally, the PDP wished all Nigerians a prosperous and optimistic 2025, with renewed efforts to restore stability and economic prosperity to the nation.
