On Friday, governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for the grand finale of Agboola Ajayi’s campaign ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday.

In attendance were governors including Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Bayelsa’s Senator Douye Diri, Bauchi’s Bala Muhammed, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State.

The event also drew the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum, alongside Senate Minority Leader Senator Patrick Abba Moro and other prominent party members.

Addressing the large audience on Oyemekun Road in Akure, Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed, expressed that the governors are united in their support for the Ondo electorate to make the right choice on November 16.

“We are united; we are behind you. In the next 48 hours, we believe that Alfred Agboola Ajayi will be the next governor of Ondo State. We’ll give you all the support, and that is why we come from the zones all over the country to support you. We are united, but you must support yourself,” he said.

Muhammed urged the people of Ondo to turn out and vote for their preferred candidate, highlighting the importance of making a choice that considers the ongoing economic challenges. He also called on them to protect their votes.

Seyi Makinde, the Chairman of the PDP in the South West and Governor of Oyo State, rallied the audience to reconnect with their grassroots and back the party’s candidate with strong participation. He reassured them that tactics used by the ruling party should not dissuade them from voting for their choice.

In his words, “It is time to go back to the grassroots because this is the final jamboree. After this, you all should return to your respective wards and units. I want to beseech you to ignore the rumours about the ruling party boasting of victory even if the people fail to vote for their party. On Saturday, I implore you to vote and make your votes count. Likewise, monitor your votes, do not engage in violence, and leave the rest to God.”

Earlier, Chairman of the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Council, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, acknowledged the presence of the PDP governors and party leaders, lauding their support for the candidate since the campaign began.

“The PDP is ready to defeat the APC in the coming election. We’ll forever be grateful to the governors for the energy and love you’ve shown to Ondo State, and we’ll never take it for granted! Installing Agboola as the governor of Ondo State is the new beginning for our state because this is the state of a great patriot of Nigeria, and it has been defined by their performance all along.

Now Agboola is on the scene; how can he perform less than our Southwest leader, Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde, or the governor of Osun State, the dancing governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and all those who are leading him? I tender my gratitude to all of you because without you, we couldn’t have gone this far. I know fully well that on Sunday, the 17th, when Agboola is announced as the winner of the election and as the governor of Ondo State, we’ll all celebrate together,” said Olafeso.

At the campaign grand finale, Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, welcomed new decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party, expressing hope that they would work for the party’s victory.
