….Asks Governor to account for N5b palliatives fund released to Ondo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of using cash inducements to prevent protests in Akure during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
The protests, which erupted on August 1st, have been fuelled by hunger and economic hardship.
The PDP criticized the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government for ignoring the people’s suffering, attributing the widespread unrest to governmental insensitivity.
They blamed the administration responsible for the casualties and destruction.
The statement signed by Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, said that Governor Aiyedatiwa reportedly distributed money from the state treasury to youth, clergy, and others to prevent protests in Akure, later expressing gratitude to the state’s residents for not participating.
The PDP condemned this action, emphasizing that Ondo State, suffering from a faltering administration, has every reason to protest.
Additionally, the PDP questioned the whereabouts of the N5 billion palliative fund allocated to Ondo State by the federal government after the fuel subsidy removal.
They also pointed out that the state’s monthly federal allocation, averaging N10 billion since December 2023, has shown no tangible impact.
Last month’s allocation alone was N11 billion. The PDP noted the only visible project is the N1 billion renovation of the Government House perimeter fence.
The party blasted Governor Aiyedatiwa for celebrating the lack of violent protests, arguing that the sophisticated citizens of Ondo chose a peaceful sit-at-home protest instead.
He urged Aiyedatiwa to stop seeking vain glory and focus on addressing the real issues facing the citizens during his remaining months in office.
