Otti Urges Focus on Governance, Warns opposition Against Early 2027 Politics

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has cautioned opposition figures against what he described as attempts to distract his administration with early discussions about the 2027 general elections, insisting that his government is firmly focused on delivering development across the state.

The governor made the remarks while addressing worshippers during a church service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District Headquarters, in Isialangwa South Local Government Area. He said no individual or group would be allowed to divert his attention from the task of rebuilding Abia. “No one, or group of people, whoever they are, is entitled to distract us,” Otti said, stressing that governance, not political speculation, remains his priority.

Otti noted that his administration would continue to concentrate on doing what is right for the people, regardless of political noise. He said his emergence as governor was not by chance, expressing confidence that his political future was in God’s hands, just as his victory in the last election.

During the visit, the governor responded to concerns raised by the church over flooding and poor drainage around its premises. He directed the Commissioner for Works to extend the ongoing drainage construction to the Umuikaa junction to address the problem.

Otti also apologised to residents for the inconvenience caused by the Umuikaa junction to Owerrinta road project, explaining that the dust and disruption were part of the reconstruction process. He said the road, though a federal one, was being dualised by the state with federal approval, adding that similar projects were ongoing in other parts of Abia.

The governor assured residents and church leaders that his administration would continue to serve the state with honesty and commitment. Leaders of the church and members of political support groups present at the service praised Otti’s performance in office and reiterated calls for improved drainage in the area, while prayers were offered for the governor and the state.
