Mr. Remi Abass, chairman of Irewole Local Government in Osun State, has been buried in Ikire, the council headquarters.
Mourners gathered in large numbers, expressing deep sorrow over his tragic death.
Abass lost his life during a violent clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the control of council secretariats.
During the burial, residents lamented his untimely death, recalling his contributions to the community’s development.
In response, APC urged its members to avoid council secretariats as a mark of respect for Abass. The party’s chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, called on security agencies to investigate and ensure those responsible face justice.
Lawal also instructed council chairmen and councillors to stay away from their offices until further notice, vowing that Abass’ death would not be in vain.
