The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to respect the Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated the party’s local government chairpersons and councillors.
Addressing the media in Abuja on Sunday, APC’s Osun State Publicity Secretary, Kola Olabisi, urged the governor to uphold the rule of law and avoid what he described as political vendetta.
He emphasized that governance should prioritize delivering democratic dividends, adhering to due process, and fostering transparency rather than engaging in political disputes.
Olabisi criticized the ongoing tensions between Governor Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, warning that such conflicts tarnish the state’s political reputation.
“We are alarmed by the ongoing political drama in Osun, a state renowned for its intellectual and political sophistication,” Olabisi stated.
He noted that Osun had been making headlines for the wrong reasons in recent weeks due to the governor’s failure to implement the court’s directive reinstating the APC-elected chairpersons.
Expressing disappointment over the governor’s refusal to heed advice from the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, Olabisi claimed that Adeleke’s actions signal a loss of public confidence.
“This situation makes it evident that Governor Adeleke is struggling to maintain credibility and leadership,” he added.
The APC spokesperson urged the governor to act in the interest of democracy by immediately enforcing the Court of Appeal’s February 10 judgment.
Defending the Oyetola administration, Olabisi asserted that all legal and procedural steps were followed in the appointment of the affected officials, dismissing allegations of irregularities as unfounded.
He also refuted accusations of financial mismanagement involving the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), arguing that there is no substantive evidence to support such claims.
“For clarity, the $20.467 million in question was converted to ₦6.26 billion and credited to the Osun State government’s account by the Central Bank of Nigeria, as confirmed by CBN records,” Olabisi stated.
He reiterated that governance must be anchored on fairness and legality, not political retaliation, challenging the Adeleke administration to provide concrete evidence in court if any wrongdoing exists.
