One Dead, Three Injured in Third Mainland Bridge Accident

A fatal accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning resulted in one death and three injuries. The crash involved a mini truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD).

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations indicated that excessive speeding during a heavy downpour caused the accident.

Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the governor on transportation, stated that three individuals were rescued at the scene. This information was part of a statement signed by LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq.

LASTMA operatives swiftly responded to the accident, which occurred near the UNILAG waterfront, heading towards the Iyana-Oworonshoki area of Lagos.

Mr. Giwa emphasized that despite the government’s ongoing campaign to educate motorists about speed limits, drivers continue to violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. He urged both commercial bus drivers and private car owners to adhere to speed limits on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads in the state.

The deceased was promptly removed by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), while LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow on the bridge.
