Ondo Youths fume, threaten to recall Rep Member

Youths under the Akure Youths Forum in Ondo State have threatened to recall Hon. Derin Abiodun Adesida, the lawmaker representing Akure South/North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

The youths expressed their dissatisfaction with Hon. Adesida, accusing him of failing to deliver the benefits of democracy to their constituency.

James Adebowale, the leader of the group, criticized Hon. Adesida for not initiating or completing meaningful projects and for neglecting to empower the youths and women in the area.

Adebowale emphasized that the recall is necessary due to the lawmaker’s poor performance, noting that projects initiated by former lawmakers, such as a new town hall started by Hon. Afe Olowookere, have been abandoned.

He recalled how the late Hon. Omolafe Adedayo empowered Akure youths and residents during his tenure, urging Hon. Adesida to present his achievements over the past year.

“It is time for Hon. Adesida to prepare for his recall. We elected him to represent us effectively, not to enrich himself and a few others. We expected him to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroots, but there is no evidence of his achievements in the last year,” Adebowale stated.

The youths accused Hon. Adesida of selectively installing street lights only in front of the homes of his loyal supporters, family, and political allies.

Adebowale reminded that the constitution allows for the recall of any non-performing elected official and announced plans for the people to sign a petition for his recall.

He issued a one-month ultimatum for Hon. Adesida to publicly present his achievements from the past year in the National Assembly.

In response, an aide to Hon. Adesida dismissed the group as unknown and refused to engage with them. Speaking confidentially to Vanguard, the aide described the lawmaker’s performance as unprecedented and claimed that Hon. Adesida has positively impacted his constituents and plans to do more.

Nevertheless, the youths continue to challenge Hon. Adesida to transparently report his actions and stop his aides from spreading misinformation. Adebowale reiterated that the lawmaker has failed to deliver on his promises to the constituency.
