The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) of Ondo State has urged the state government to expedite the payment of the 2024 annual leave allowance for workers.
In a letter addressed to the Ondo State Head of Service and dated September 11, 2024, the council expressed concern over the delay in disbursing the allowances, which were earlier promised to be paid immediately after the state’s approval.
The council, citing the financial pressures on many civil servants, particularly those with school-aged children, noted that the leave allowance would provide much-needed financial relief to workers, especially at a time when they are grappling with rising costs of living.
“We wish to remind you about the government’s commitment to pay the annual leave allowance of Ondo State workers for the year 2024. The delay is putting many workers under undue financial strain, especially as school resumption approaches,” the council stated.
The letter, signed by Comrades Olapade Ademola (Chairman), Ebiesin Amos Kayode (Vice Chairman), and Akinleye Esther (Treasurer), implored the state government to fulfill its promise and ensure the payment is made without further delay.
They appreciated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce but emphasized the importance of the timely release of the allowance to help alleviate workers’ burdens.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Ondo State Government regarding the delay.
