The Muslim Congress (TMC) has called on governments and Nigerians to shun corruption in order to ensure good governance for a better country.
Alhaji AbdulWasi’l Bangbala, Amir, TMC, made the call on Sunday in Akure at the Annual State Lecture organised by the group in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
The lecture was with theme “Building A Great Nation: Collective Responsibility of The Leaders and The Led”.
Bangbala, represented by the Ondo State Amir, TMC, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Aliu, urged Nigerians to acknowledge that the burden of recovery rested on both the leaders and citizens.
“It is time for leaders to rise to the occasion and listen to the cries of the masses. Government needs to prioritise it’s citizens’ welfare, take decisive action to alleviate people’s suffering.
“We need policies that address not only the symptoms of our economic woes but also tackle the root causes with sincerity and urgency.
“Together, we must strive to fix the systemic challenges that hinder Nigeria’s growth. Whether through advocacy, community service, or education.
“We must all step up and fulfill our roles as engaged citizens committed to the welfare of our nation,” he said.
Also, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Tajudeen Yusuf, Department of Risk and Insurance, University of Lagos, said that the country was blessed with human and natural resources.
He urged citizens to have a rethink and change of mind in moving the country forward.
According to him, the task at hand cuts across both the leadership and the led, because most of the time, people accuse the leadership and forget that followers are also involved.
“If the country must be great again, the bad mentality that “if I don’t cheat or steal, I can not succeed in life”, should be taken away from Nigerians.
“Nothing is moving or to show for in the country, our health, education, judiciary, security and others are in the state of collapse due to our greedy.
“Let us remember that change begins with us and each of everyone has a role to play in building a great nation.
“We need to be good to others and use our position for the benefit of others, make other smiles by taken away their burden.
“We must hold our leader accountable, engage in constructive dialogue, and support initiative promoting economic stability and social justice.
“Religious bodies and civil societies must also ramp up initiatives that will foster the spirit of unity and collaboration among all Nigerians, regardless of our differences,” he said.
