In fulfillment of his promises to reduce poverty and alleviate the suffering of the people, Abiola Oladapo, a Chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP), and Candidate of the party for Ondo West Constituency II in the just concluded general election in Nigeria, has commenced the first batch of his empowerment programme where signed cheques were issued to market women to support their trade.
The programme which took place in Ondo West Local Government of Ondo State was anchored by Abiola Oladapo Foundation under its Trader Support Initiative For Women Programme”.
Starnews reports that about ten thousand business owners which cut across Artisans, Traders, Market Women and Youths In Ondo West Local Government recently registered to participate in the empowerment programmes.
The issuance of cheques for the first 100 beneficiaries was done on Sunday in Ondo Town.
While giving out the cheques to the first 100 beneficiaries, Oladapo said it was part of his mission to lift people out of poverty by creating human resources and enterprising society where people will be self dependent.
He said Politics should be seen as a way to better and improve the living standard of the people instead of been used for self gain.
He urged the government and political office holders to initiate policies and actions that would create jobs and enable youths contribute to national development.
He said: “ This is part of our mission to reduce the high rate of poverty in the land. This token is for business start up capital, and those already in businesses are to use it augment their working capital.
“All the beneficiaries should use the money for the purpose it meant for so that our society can be better
“I came into politics to service my people despite not winning the last house of assembly election, I will continue to do my best to improve the lives of people in Ondo State especially in Ondo city.
“It is sad to observe that we are yet to enjoy basic amenities of life that developed countries enjoy, such as uninterrupted electricity supply, potable drinking water, good roads, access to health facilities and good quality education, almost 60 years after independence, he said:
“Nigeria is in urgent need for good leaders that have the fear of God and love of the people. Nigeria needs leaders that will genuinely serve the people and not looters and wasters of our common wealth”, he added.
He admonished newly-elected leaders not to embark on projects that would not affect people directly, but strive to impact and fight poverty in the society.
Oladapo said leaders must nip the looming revolution of the unemployed youths in the bud, by initiating empowerment and skill acquisitions programmes.
He however reiterated his commitment and determination to work with the party to regain Ondo State from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he said performed woefully in the last two years.
Starnews learnt that the event was the second edition of Abiola Oladapo Foundation Empowerment Programme.
The Organisation had carried out several educational empowerment programmes by giving out Scholarship to over 300 Students in various Higher institution of learnings.
The PDP Chieftain recently provided modern borehole water to some villages in ondo west constituency II the moment he lost the last house of assembly election.
Abiola said he was not into politics for personal gains, but that he only ventured into politics to expand his scope of helping people and reduce the level of poverty in the society.
“All these we have done and we will not relent in doing our best for the development of our society as much as the grace of God is sufficient for us”, he said.
Some of the beneficiaries were busy singing and dancing when our correspondents sought to grant them interview.
At the event were notable PDP leaders, community leaders, Royal Fathers and some very important personalities in Ondo City.
