In a move to halt internal cracks within its fold, the Ondo State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday paid an unscheduled visit to the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, at his Akure residence, rejecting his resignation from the party.
The visit, which was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP in the state, Leye Igbabo, was led by the State Caretaker Chairman, Rt. Hon. Bakkita Bello (PhD), who prevailed on Peretei to rescind his decision.
Addressing Peretei during the meeting, Dr. Bello said, “Yes, you have the right to feel offended if you need to. But you must also understand, as an experienced politician, that a combination of factors are always responsible for any particular action or resolution of a political party.
“You are a true party man and the reason we have come to make you change your mind. You have to rescind your decision to quit the party because we are not accepting your resignation letter.”
Peretei, in his response, told the visiting members that his resignation was borne out of feelings of betrayal and disappointment over the conduct of individuals he had held in high esteem within the party.
Those who accompanied the Chairman on the visit included the State Woman Leader, Hon. Princess Kemi Adesanya; State Youth Leader, Comrade Babatunde Daodu; State Financial Secretary, Hon. Boluwaji Bamidele; and State Organising Secretary, Engr. Dare Akinwale.
Others were the Ondo Central Senatorial Woman Leader, Hon. Mrs. Mercy Akinlami, and the Directorate Officer, Prince Niyi Akinola.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts by the Caretaker Committee to douse tensions and strengthen party unity ahead of upcoming political engagements in the state.
