Ondo NNPP Guber Candidate, Deputy Suspended

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ondo State has suspended its governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, along with his running mate, Rotimi Adeyemi, and another party leader, Israel Ayeni.

The suspension was announced on Monday following a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) in Akure.

According to the party leadership, the three were removed due to alleged anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution.

The state chairman, Peter Olagookun, who spoke during a press briefing alongside 12 SWC members, explained that the affected individuals also took legal action in the party’s name without proper authorization.

Additionally, they were accused of failing to follow internal dispute resolution procedures before taking legal steps against the party.

The NNPP leadership described their actions as a breach of party rules, leading to their indefinite suspension.

As of the time of this report, Edema had not officially responded to the development.

However, an aide speaking anonymously stated that Edema would address the issue at the appropriate time.

Edema was the NNPP candidate in the November 16 off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, which was won by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
