Ondo guber: Politicians inducing voters with fertilisers, rice, others – Yiaga Africa

Following preparations for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, Yiaga Africa, has alleged that politicians and political parties are inducing candidates with items.

Yiaga in its Pre-election Assessment report presented at the signing of the Peace Accord in Akure said voters are receiving fertilizers, rice, and maize among many other items.

According to the organisation, its Long Term Observers observed cases of voter inducement during campaign activities in Akure South, Ese-Odo, Ifedore, Irele, Ondo East, Ose, and Owo Local Government Areas.

It also noted that the leaders of the All Progressives Congress distributed these items in their areas of influence.

Yiaga Africa further called for increased monitoring to ensure that tension and possible violence is mitigated ahead of the poll.

The report said, “With the exception of the 2011 presidential election, Ondo central senatorial district has the highest case of rejected votes in all elections preceding the 2020 election.

“As the election approaches, tensions between political parties are escalating, with different sides trading accusations and warnings,” the report added.
