Ondo Assembly Yet To Get Akeredolu’s Handover Letter

**May adopt doctrine of necessity to declare Aiyedatiwa Acting Gov

The Ondo State House of Assembly may adopt the doctrine of necessity today (Wednesday) to declare the state deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the acting governor, Starnews Nigeria reports.

As at the time of filing this report, Starnews Nigeria gathered that the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, is yet to receive any letter from Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to handover power to his deputy as the state acting governor following his decision to return to Germany for further medical treatment.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde, had said in a statement on Tuesday, that Akeredolu would transmit a letter to the state House of Assembly, handing over power to his deputy as acting governor while returning to Germany for medical attention.

On Monday, following his second intervention over the political crisis rocking the state, it was learnt that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the state assembly members through the Speaker to invoke the Doctrine of Necessity to transmit power to the deputy governor without any condition due to the failing health of the governor.

Sources said the President insisted on the doctrine of necessity because he believes the ailing governor could no longer sign any letter due to his alleged incapacitation, but it was gathered stakeholders at the meeting begged the president to allow the governor transmit a letter to the assembly following assurances by his son, Babajide Akeredolu who promised to get the letter across to the state assembly.

However, our investigation revealed as at Tuesday night, that the state assembly had yet to receive Akeredolu’s letter, transmitting power to his deputy.

To avoid the president’s wrath, Starnews Nigeria learnt that the state assembly had met behind closed door on Tuesday and resolved to invoke the doctrine of necessity to declare Aiydatiwa as the state acting governor if they do not receive Akeredolu’s letter before the house would convene on Wednesday (today).
