Ondo APC Chieftain slams 500m defamatory suit against Jimoh Ibrahim, accuses him of vote buying

A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Ademola Ijabiyi has filed a suit at the Federal High Court against Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim who is the lawmaker representing Ondo South at the red chamber of the National Assembly.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/05/857/2024 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ijabiyi is praying the court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights, N500m damages and investigation of vote buying allegedly perpetrated by the Senator.

It would be recalled that Jimoh Ibrahim who was an Aspirant in the just concluded APC gubernatorial primary election in the state had written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that the applicant obtained money from him by false pretences, as well as stealing and criminal conversion of N4,400, 000.00. (N4.4M).

Responding to the allegation through some court papers obtained by Starnews NG, Ijabiyi’s Lawyer, Tosin Ojaomo, partly said, “That the applicant was shocked when he saw a copy of the Petition written by counsel to the 1st respondent to the respondent maliciously alleging the case of obtaining money under false pretense, criminal diversion against the applicant on social media and several whatsapp groups of the Aseyori Campaign organization.

“A copy of the Petition is hereby attached and marked Exhibit A. That if the respondents are not immediately restrained by this honourable court, the applicants’ rights are likely to be further infringed upon with that of his family members by the 1st respondent who has been boasting of using the instrumentality of the office of the 2, 3 and 6 respondents to deal mercilessly with the applicant.

“That the applicant was informed by his counsel that only this Honourable Court is empowered by law to prevent the powerful in the society from using their influence and powers to oppress the less privileged members of the society.

“That the grant of the reliefs sought in this application will prevent any future harm that maybe done to the applicant and his family members because the 1st respondent has all personal details of the applicant and knows all his family members to his home.

“That I know for a fact that only this Honourable court is empowered by law to enforce the fundamental human rights of all persons in Nigeria without fear and favour.

“That it will be in the interest of justice, fairness and equity to grant this germane application.

“That I make this application in good faith, conscientiously believing the contents to be true and in accordance with the Oaths”, the Deponent added.
