The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, recently paraded 28 individuals, including a 55-year-old former inmate, Ayodele Ijilakinro, who had just completed a three-year sentence for a similar crime. Despite his earlier conviction, Ijilakinro was apprehended once again for engaging in criminal activities.
According to The Hope, jilakinro was displayed alongside 27 other individuals arrested across the state’s 18 local government areas within the past week. During the parade, the State Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, detailed the suspects’ offenses, noting that 24 were involved in various unlawful activities.
Ijilakinro, who was previously convicted of a serious crime in 2021, confessed to multiple incidents involving inappropriate encounters with women. He acknowledged that while some were consensual, he did force himself on others. He explained that he had met some of the victims while traveling between Akure and Idanre.
Despite his past conviction, Ijilakinro’s actions continued after his release in February of the previous year. The Commander revealed that he had admitted to taking women to hotels where they ate, drank, and engaged in illicit activities.
Commander Adeleye reassured the public that, despite the recent arrests, Ondo State remains largely peaceful. He highlighted that there were no reported major crises, including land disputes, labor union issues, or incidents related to human trafficking. However, he did mention that one case of farmer-herder conflict had been recorded, along with three arrests for suspected kidnapping.
The Commander identified the alleged kidnappers as Akpan, Alimi, and Emmanuel, who were detained in Akure, Emure, and Ipeme-Owo, respectively. Among those arrested was Adu Ojo, who was involved in ATM fraud by trapping victims’ cards in ATMs, retrieving them with secret codes, and draining their accounts before they noticed.
Other individuals arrested included Mafo and Asara, who were charged with conspiracy and assault; Idris Umaru, apprehended for illegal grazing on a farmer’s land; and three suspected burglars—Oluwafemi, Francis, and Sunday. Another suspect, Lawal, was arrested for stealing phones and other valuable items, while Ismaila Kazim was detained for robbing commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders.
Despite the arrests, the Amotekun Corps assured residents that Ondo State remains a secure place for business and social engagements. Commander Adeleye stated that the 28 suspects would undergo final profiling and those found guilty would be presented in court the following morning.
