Ondo 2024: Debates Don’t Decide Election Outcomes

The last Sunday debate organized by Channels TV and anchored by the popular presenter, Seun Okinbaloye, has sparked mixed reactions, with tensions running high and some remarks crossing into the derogatory.

The debate, primarily focused on the two major contenders—Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC and Hon. Agboola Ajayi of the PDP—led to friction among their supporters.

Following the event, Starnews NG observed that supporters on both sides began to review the debate’s performances, trading barbs and engaging in harsh critiques of each other.

Some have even argued that the debate secured an inevitable victory for one of the candidates.

While debates provide a platform for candidates to present their vision and policies, they are not the ultimate deciders of election outcomes.

A debate is only one element in a broader campaign, and real influence lies in the candidates’ track records, grassroots engagement, and policies that resonate with the people.

We encourage all supporters to tone down their hostility and focus on constructive discussions that foster unity and healthy democratic participation.

Let us remember that the true verdict lies with the electorate, who will make their choice based on a candidate’s track record, character, and plans for Ondo State.

A vibrant democracy relies on informed and respectful discourse, and it’s essential that we maintain these values as the election approaches.
