Barring any last-minute change, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) may pick his running mate in the next 48 hours ahead of the October 10, 2020 governorship election.
This is coming as the deadline for the substitution of names of governorship candidates and deputies for Ondo governorship election is Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
Starnews NG had reported on July 31, 2020, that the name of Olumide Ogunje as Jegede’s running mate as published earlier by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would still be replaced because according to a reliable source in the PDP, the name was initially presented to meet the deadline by INEC for the submission of the names of governorship candidates and their deputies since the PDP and its candidate, Eyitayo Jegede has not yet resolved on the issue of running mate.
Findings have however revealed that the leadership of the PDP had recommended the three gubernatorial aspirants, Godday Erewa who scored 14 votes, Sola Ebiseni who scored 29 votes, and Banji Okunomo who scored 90 all from Ilaje Local Government in the just concluded primaries and two other old members of the party, John Mafo and Tunde Akindehin for one person to be picked among them.
Starnews NG gathered that the party would give prime consideration for the following factors: Political experience, popularity and acceptability, financial strength, structures within the party as well as the ability to add value to the flag bearer in the election.
As we write, all the aspirants are in serious lobby to pick the deputy governorship ticket of the PDP.
