Ondo 2020: I’m in the race to become Ondo governor, not deputy – Banji Okunomo

  • Let no one live in the delusion that I can surrogate my ambition for deputy

The youngest Governorship Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo, has said that he would not surrogate his ambition to become a deputy governorship candidate of the Party ahead of the governorship election on October 10, 2020.

Okunomo is one of the governorship aspirants from the Southern District of Ondo State from the oil-producing Ilaje local government council.

The former council boss and the leading governorship aspirant of the PDP spoke in a telephone interview with Starnew NG on Thursday.

While reacting to insinuation in some quarters that he was in the race to become a deputy governorship candidate, Okunomo said he has worked more diligently than any of the aspirants on the political field to guarantee his success not only at the PDP primary election but also at the general election on October 10.

”I have put in a lot of resources, time and energy, to guarantee my success not only at the PDP primary election but also, at the general election on October 10, this year.”

”I am eminently qualified by the virtue of my academic qualification and political experience to become the governor of Ondo State.”

”I have worked more diligently than any of the aspirants on the political field.”

”My acceptability and popularity transcend the PDP because the electorates are already banking on me to save Ondo State from the current mess of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.

Okunomo, who recently got Ondo State talking with his gubernatorial aspiration, was endorsed last week as the sole governorship aspirant in Ilaje local government area of Ondo State by 21 Local Government Executives of the PDP out of 30, while 35 ward executive members of the party out of 48 across the 12 wards of the local government further concurred with his endorsement by the local government Excos.

Okunomo, popularly known as BBO, said he is endowed with the needed intellectual capacity to govern Ondo State, adding that, he is not scared to win the confidence of the delegates at the PDP primary, having visited the 18 local governments of Ondo State to meet with stakeholders in the PDP to seek supports for the realisation of his ambition.

His words: ”I am not swimming against the tide for contesting from the favoured district (Ondo South) and from the favoured local government council (Ilaje LG)”.

”I have physically and I personally visited the 18 local governments of Ondo State to meet with stakeholders in the PDP to seek their supports for the realisation of my ambition. Therefore, I am not scared to win the confidence of the delegates at the primary.”

”As a middle-aged politician, I am endowed with the needed intellectual capacity to govern Ondo State.”

”Therefore, let no one live in the delusion that I can surrogate my ambition to become a deputy governorship candidate.”

”I am in this race to become Ondo State governor and not the deputy governor,” he added
