Ondo 2020: Akure leaders endorse Akeredolu for second term

  • PDP is ready to take over, says Senator Tofowomo

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), was endorsed on Wednesday for second term, by leaders of Akure South local government from across the political wards of the city.

The leaders were led by a former Commissioner for information in Ondo State, Prince Olu Adegboro.

Leaders in Akure endorse Akeredolu

The endorsement was a major boost for governor Akeredolu as the leaders promised to mobilise all the electorates in Akure to work for his victory, saying Akeredolu had performed beyond their expectations.

Part of the delegation also includes a former Chairman of the old Akure Local Government, Dr Bankole Akerele, Professor Olu Aboluwoye and Hon Temitayo Oluwatuyi.

Starnews NG reported in July 2, 2019 that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State told the residents of Akure geopolitical zone of the state that it was not yet their turn to produce the governor of the state because a former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko who is Akeredolu’s predecessor hails from the Central Senatorial district which includes Akure and spent 8 years in office as governor of the state.

Starnews NG reports that this is not the first time governor Akeredolu is getting the blessings and approval of the leaders in Akure City for his re-election.

The Kabiyesi, Deji of Akure, and his traditional chiefs, were recently accused of endorsing governor Akeredolu for second term in a viral video that got Ondo State talking even at time they have a son who wanted to run for similar office on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, Starnews reported in January 27, 2020, that the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo South wrote an open letter to the National leaders of the party through the National Chairman, prince Uche Secondus, and copied Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to explain why the PDP may lose this year’s governorship election in Ondo State if the party’s candidate does not emerge from the Southern Senatorial District of the state.

Speaking with Starnews NG on the development, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the 9th Senate, said that the APC will be unseated during the general election.

He, however, boasted that Ondo South PDP will produce the next governor because the Senatorial district is the stronghold of the party and the best zone that could slug it out with Akeredolu, the incumbent.

He advised leaders of Ondo South to prune down all the numerous aspirants and brace up for the party primary election immediately.
