Okpebholo Proposes N605.7bn Budget for 2025

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has introduced a N605.7 billion budget proposal to the Edo House of Assembly for the 2025 fiscal year.

This marks a 25 per cent rise compared to the 2024 budget.

The proposed budget, dubbed “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” allocates N381 billion for capital projects, making up 63 per cent, while recurrent expenditure will take N223 billion, or 37 per cent.

A major focus of the budget is road development, with N162 billion set aside for road construction throughout the state.

The governor has allocated N48 billion for education and N500 million as a monthly subvention for Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma to support its recovery.

The health sector will receive N63.9 billion, with N1.8 billion specifically for the health insurance initiative.

Additionally, N4.5 billion is earmarked for agricultural development.

In terms of security, the state recently acquired 20 patrol vehicles to boost the efforts of security agencies, with plans to purchase more next year.

Upon receiving the budget proposal, the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, pledged the assembly’s quick review and approval, emphasizing a commitment to work alongside the governor to benefit the people of Edo.
