Oil Sector Crisis: ‘We’re Not Thieves,’ Says NNPCL Chief Kyari

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has denied any involvement in the importation of sub-standard products into Nigeria’s oil industry.

Kyari made this declaration on Wednesday while testifying before a Senate ad-hoc committee investigating alleged economic sabotage within the Nigerian petroleum sector. The committee, chaired by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, is scrutinising the claims.

Kyari expressed frustration over what he described as unwarranted media attacks aimed at portraying NNPCL as undermining the national economy. He emphasised, “We are not criminals and we are not thieves. We will uphold our dignity to better serve this country.”

He also highlighted the industry’s severe struggles and hinted at sensitive information that could not be disclosed publicly at this time. Kyari suggested that future committee sessions be broadcast live to ensure transparency.
