The Ogun State Government has implemented proactive measures to address security challenges following reports of a bandit invasion in the South-West region.
According to Vanguard, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, shared this development in a statement released on Friday in Abeokuta.
Akinmade reassured the public that the state government remains in full control of its security framework, with robust collaboration between various security agencies and local security organizations.
He outlined one of the key strategies for protecting farmlands, which includes the deployment of armed security personnel at the local level and conducting frequent patrols to ensure the safety of farmers.
He also emphasized that the state’s security measures played a significant role in maintaining the peaceful atmosphere experienced throughout Ogun during the festive period.
“The recent influx of bandits into the South-West coincided with a security meeting of heads of security agencies in Ogun. After a thorough assessment of the situation, the agencies resolved to double their efforts to maintain the peace and stability Ogun has been enjoying. We are committed to preventing any destabilizing infiltration of bandits into the state,” Akinmade stated.
The security agencies have reinforced their successful strategies, including enhancing their visibility, regular patrols, and securing vulnerable areas.
Akinmade also highlighted the ongoing intelligence-sharing efforts between Ogun and Oyo states, focusing on suspected bandit movements.
“The people of Ogun, regardless of ethnicity—whether Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Fulani, Edo, Igala, Urhobo, Ebira, or others—are united in their resolve to protect the state’s peaceful environment,” he added.
