In Ogun State, police have apprehended a security guard suspected of killing a man in connection with a phone theft.
Initially reported as on the run, the suspect has been relocated to Igbeba Police Station, according to Odutola Omolola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, confirming the development on Wednesday.
Muhammed Abubakar, aged 26 and employed to guard a building in Sagamu’s Ajaka area, allegedly fatally injured an unidentified man amid accusations of attempted phone theft.
The victim succumbed to injuries at Sagamu Hospital around 9 p.m. on Monday, sources close to the incident informed.
Eyewitnesses recounted the tragedy, noting that Abubakar struck the victim’s head with a large plank. Prompted by disturbing sounds from Abubakar’s post, residents alerted the Sagamu Police Division suspecting foul play.
Inspector Ojo Alasofe swiftly responded to investigate alongside concerned residents.
Initially believed to have fled, Abubakar was later arrested and transported to Igbeba Police Station, clarified the PPRO, Odutola.
