Obasa Remains in the U.S. as Supporters Defend Him Against Corruption Allegations

Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, continues to stay in the United States amid the controversy surrounding his recent impeachment. Obasa, who was removed from office last Monday over accusations of fraud and misconduct, has received vocal support from his loyalists in Agege Constituency 1.

According to Politics Nigeria, they have strongly denied the allegations and characterized them as politically driven.

A group of key community leaders and stakeholders gathered at his constituency office in Agege on Friday to address the allegations and strategize against what they called baseless claims.

“The allegations against Obasa are just rumors. If he wishes to run for governor and is supported by God, we in Agege would be proud of him,” stated Omodele Morufu, Chairman of the Community Development Committee for Agege Local Government Area.

“We are here to set the record straight and counter any misleading information that may arise from this situation,” he added.

Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, affirmed Obasa’s importance to the community. “Obasa remains the political leader of Agege. Regardless of how he was treated by the Lagos Assembly, he is a good man and has contributed significantly to our community,” Egunjobi remarked.

The Alaige of Orile Agege Kingdom, Oba Egbeyemi Lateef Oladimeji, also weighed in, describing the impeachment as a political matter. “Obasa has always been a good leader to me and our community,” he said.

The impeachment has raised questions, with some analysts suggesting that the allegations of fraud are secondary to Obasa’s ambitions for the governorship in 2027. In his absence, the former Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has been elected as the new Speaker, making history as the first woman to hold the position.
