OAU Professor Passes Away After Falling Ill in Meeting

A professor at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has passed away after experiencing a medical emergency during a departmental meeting.

Professor Jimoh Olanipekun was attending the meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, when colleagues noticed he was struggling to breathe.

He was immediately taken to the university’s medical center, where doctors examined him.

Seeing the need for further care, they referred him to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC). However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The news has left the university community in mourning. OAU Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the professor’s family, expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss.

He described the late professor as a brilliant scholar who made a lasting impact.

Bamire encouraged the family to find comfort in the professor’s contributions to education and prayed for strength for them, his department, and the entire university community during this difficult time.
