NUP reacts as Ondo Govt. pays N1bn for gratuity of pensioners in primary school, LG

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has disbursed N1 billion to settle the gratuity arrears of 2012 retirees from the Local Government, including Primary School Teachers.

The governor initiated the second phase of bulk payments to pensioners, emphasizing his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens.

Aiyedatiwa highlighted that this gesture aimed to bring relief and happiness to senior citizens who served the state diligently.

He noted previous payments made in November 2023 and January 2024, which collectively eased financial burdens for many retirees.

The governor assured that outstanding arrears from preceding years would also be settled completely, stressing that pension payments would continue regularly on a monthly basis.

He emphasized the non-partisan nature of these payments, aimed solely at benefiting retirees based on their years of service.

Aiyedatiwa affirmed the government’s dedication to fairness and equity in gratuity disbursements, urging pensioners to manage their funds wisely with priority on health and welfare.

He reassured those not yet covered that their turn would come, affirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring no retiree faces hardship after serving the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the governor’s proactive approach to prioritizing welfare issues.

He highlighted efforts to diversify methods of gratuity payment to enhance efficiency and meet retirees’ needs promptly.

In response, Comrade Johnson Osunyemi, State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), expressed emotional gratitude to the governor for his compassion towards pensioners. Osunyemi commended Aiyedatiwa’s leadership and pledged the union’s continued support for his administration.
