The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the identification of the fault responsible for the power outage affecting the North East, North West, and parts of the North Central regions. TCN’s team of engineers traced the fault to a snapped section of the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Double Circuit transmission line in the Igumale area of Benue State.
The fault, discovered around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, was located in a swampy forest, complicating access to the affected area. According to TCN, the damaged portion spans one segment of the transmission line, and efforts are now underway to mobilize the necessary equipment and materials for repairs. A bulldozer and Hiab vehicle from TCN’s Enugu Regional office are being deployed to assist in clearing the terrain and repairing the damaged section.
The transmission line initially tripped on Monday, October 21, 2024, plunging several northern regions into darkness. Earlier attempts to pinpoint the exact fault were unsuccessful until the breakthrough on Tuesday evening.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, assured the public that repair work is set to begin immediately. She expressed gratitude to affected electricity consumers for their patience and reaffirmed TCN’s commitment to restoring power as swiftly as possible.
