Nollywood producer Henry Asonna was fatally shot by police in Lagos State during an attempted kidnapping in the Ladipo area.
Asonna and his gang were engaged in a gunfight with Lagos State Command operatives, resulting in his death. The incident occurred following police intelligence that indicated a notorious kidnapping gang planned to abduct high-profile individuals in Lagos.
Lagos State Command spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed in a press conference that police received credible intelligence about the gang two weeks prior. Acting on this information, CP Fayoade directed tactical teams to monitor and prepare for the gang’s anticipated strike on Thursday in Ladipo.
Hundeyin stated, “With this intelligence, we laid an ambush for them. The kidnappers engaged our officers in a shootout but were overpowered by the police.”
In the aftermath, nine gang members were neutralized, while two escaped with injuries. Recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, four semi-automatic pistols, nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, and a POS machine.
Nollywood actor Stanley Ontop expressed shock on Instagram, noting Asonna’s dual life as a producer and kidnapper. Ontop remarked, “He was a big Nollywood producer. This guy lived a double life, producing films by day and kidnapping by night.”
Ontop called for the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to ban all of Asonna’s movies, describing his actions as a significant embarrassment to Nollywood.
Henry Asonna, associated with Asonrich Movies, produced films such as *Love at the Pool*, *My Half New*, *My Half*, *Little Top Up*, and *Blind Blood Full*.
