No plan to rig LG polls – Imo Govt

The Imo State Government says it has no intention of tampering with the electoral process, reaffirming its dedication to conducting free, fair, and credible local government elections on September 21.

Recall that the Supreme Court had confirmed the state Governor’, Hope Uzodinma’s re-election as the governor of Imo State in the November 11, 2023, governorship election.

However, government expressed confidence that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s popularity, along with his numerous people-centered projects across the state, would ensure a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the upcoming elections.

This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, during a press briefing in Owerri. Emelumba dismissed allegations from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which claimed that the governor had pre-written election results submitted to the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC,. He described the accusations as “insulting.”

The PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lancelot Obiaku, had earlier alleged that the state government planned to rig the elections. In response, Emelumba labeled the PDP a “failed party in disarray, unprepared for the election.”

“PDP is in tatters. It is best remembered in Imo today as a failed party.

“They already know that they cannot win a single ward in the state, which is why they are crying wolf, trying to discredit an election that is yet to hold,” he said.

“APC won in all the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

“PDP could not even win the local government of their governorship candidate.

“After dragging APC to all the courts, the Supreme Court still affirmed that His Excellency, Gov. Hope Uzodimma, won fair and square,” he said.
