The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of sunshine and hazy conditions across different parts of the country from Friday to Sunday.
In its weather update released on Thursday in Abuja, NiMet projected that the northern region would experience hazy conditions with clear skies on Friday, while thunderstorms are expected in parts of Taraba State later in the day.
For the North Central region, the agency anticipates mostly sunny skies with scattered clouds, alongside possible isolated thunderstorms in areas such as Kogi and Benue states. The southern region is expected to have intervals of sunshine and cloudy conditions, with early morning thunderstorms likely over parts of Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states. As the day progresses, thunderstorms may develop in areas including Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Lagos states.
By Saturday, moderate dust haze is expected to affect Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Adamawa, and Bauchi states, while the rest of the northern region will continue to experience sunny and hazy weather. The North Central zone will see mostly clear skies with some cloud patches, while the southern region will have a mix of cloudy and sunny conditions. Thunderstorms are expected in parts of Ogun, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Lagos states later in the afternoon or evening.
On Sunday, NiMet forecasts a continuation of moderate dust haze in the northern region. The North Central zone will experience sunshine with occasional cloud cover, while the southern region will have partly cloudy conditions with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms in areas such as Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Lagos states.
NiMet also warned that rising temperatures in several parts of the country could lead to heat stress, advising residents to stay hydrated, limit direct sun exposure, and remain in well-ventilated spaces.
Individuals with respiratory conditions, particularly in the northern states, were urged to take necessary precautions, as dust haze could affect air quality. Additionally, the agency cautioned that thunderstorms in some areas may be accompanied by strong winds.
The agency advised airline operators to obtain weather reports specific to airports for effective flight planning and encouraged the public to stay updated with its forecasts.
