The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunny and hazy conditions across the country from Saturday to Monday.
In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet stated that the northern region will experience mostly sunny and hazy weather, while parts of the North-Central will have a mix of sunshine and clouds. Some central and southern states should also expect localized thunderstorms.
On Saturday, NiMet forecasts clear skies with hazy conditions in the North. The North-Central region will have sunshine with patches of clouds, with chances of thunderstorms in areas like Kwara and Kogi later in the day. In the South, morning hours will bring cloudy skies and occasional sunshine, with thunderstorms likely over Lagos, Edo, and Delta. More thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening in states such as Ondo, Ogun, Edo, and Ebonyi.
For Sunday, the northern region will again see hazy weather, while the North-Central will have a mix of sun and clouds. Thunderstorms are likely in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory by afternoon or evening. Southern states will experience cloudy weather in the morning, with thunderstorms developing later in the day.
By Monday, sunny weather will persist in the North, with the North-Central region experiencing both sunshine and clouds. Kogi and Benue may have thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. In the South, the morning will be cloudy, followed by thunderstorms later in the day, especially in Lagos, Delta, and Cross River.
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles in the air, which may affect individuals with respiratory conditions. The agency also warned that strong winds could accompany thunderstorms and urged airline operators to check for weather updates to ensure safe flights.
