The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting sunny skies and hazy conditions across the country from Thursday to Saturday.
According to the weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet anticipates clear skies with hazy weather in the northern regions throughout the forecast period.
The agency also expects moderate dust haze in the North Central region, with horizontal visibility ranging between two and five kilometres.
In the southern regions, hazy conditions with intermittent cloud cover are forecasted, accompanied by early morning fog and mist along the coastal areas.
On Friday, NiMet expects continued sunshine with hazy conditions in the northern regions. The North-Central region will experience mild dust haze and good visibility. Meanwhile, the southern areas will continue to experience hazy conditions, with morning fog and mist along the coast.
By Saturday, sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere are predicted for both the northern and North-Central regions. The southern part of the country is expected to experience hazy weather with scattered clouds, with early morning thunderstorms likely in parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Delta states. Thunderstorms are forecasted to occur later in the day over Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Bayelsa states.
NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to suspended dust particles in the air, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues like asthma. The agency also cautioned of strong winds potentially preceding thunderstorms in some areas and recommended the public adhere to safety guidelines from relevant authorities.
Airline operators are advised to obtain specific weather updates from NiMet for operational purposes. The public is encouraged to stay informed through NiMet’s official weather reports available at www.nimet.gov.ng.
