Nigeria’s Falconets defeat Burundi 1-0 in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s Falconets edged closer to qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after defeating Burundi 1-0 at at Azam Stadium Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday.

Janet Akekoromowei who plays for Asisat Oshoala Academy in Lagos gave Nigeria the full three points away from home after tucking home a first half penalty.

The Falconets sought to double their tally in the second half but the Burundi held the ladies at bay as the game ended 1-1.

The return leg of the clash is billed for Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Going by the first-leg result, Falconets are in pole position to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
